Ipswich, Massachusetts

One night I drove with a friend named Kregg in a heavy snowstorm from the little village of South Hamilton, Mass. to another nearby village called Ipswich for dinner. It was below zero outside, so once we got settled into a table by the window and they brought coffee, it was very pleasant watching it snow. A strange sense of peace settled over me, and I oddly felt "at home".
Odd for a Southerner on a dark ,brutally cold New England night.

Fifteen years later or so, I discovered that an eight great grandfather was one of the founders of Ipswich and was a surveyor by trade. In fact, he had surveyed the road that we had driven on to dinner that evening.

Once I started looking for my ancestors, I often felt that they were helping me find them...
