In a few hours of the 16th of April, 1746, forces were set into motion for my mother's family that would sweep them to another continent.
Those who did not die among the 2000 or so on the battlefield of Culloden Moor , Scotland were faced with the choice of taking flight or being hanged. So many of them ran, first to northern Ireland, then to Pennsylvania, on to Virginia, finally coming to rest in the Backcountry of the Colony of South Carolina.
