Williamsburg, Va.
Shortly after Linda and I were married forty one years ago, we traveled to Williamsburg, Virginia. On one afternoon of that trip, we visited Bruton Parrish Church and dutifully listened as our guide showed us the boxed pews where George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry worshipped when in town. Apparently while paying respects to the famous, I overlooked what should have been the more familiar as we entered and exited the church.
Eight years ago, I discovered that there is a small plaque by the entrance doorway with the members of the church vestry who directed the construction of the current church...
I also discovered that the fifth name from the top on the right, Ambrose Cobbs, is that of my maternal 6th great grandfather.
